How to stay healthy in December

December. The pointy time of the year where there is a lot of stress, poor food choices and lots of celebration all at once. Don’t make the same mistake last year in neglecting your health this December. Here are our top 5 tips!

  1. Drink plenty of water.

In Australia, the heat ramps up in December which means that we will be dehydrating a lot faster than the earlier months. Remember, if you’ve feeling thirsty, you’re already dehydrated! Our bodies are made up by a majority of water and we need water to filter the body. One way to make it easier is to carry a bottle with you (my particular favourite is the glass Voss bottles) and pop some sliced fruit inside for a refreshing taste. Lemon, strawberry, oranges, mint, blueberries – this time of the year offer great seasonal fruits which can make drinking water a lot easier.

  1. Exercise!

Get moving! Sounds ridiculous – you may be running around already but you’re most likely going from one place to another than actually hitting the pavements or in a gym. At this time of year lots of gym memberships go askew as individual values change. ‘Oh I’ll pick it up in January. Oh it’s too hot. I’ve got too much on at the moment.’ – NO, we all have 24 hours and 1 hour of exercise just over 4% of your day. Make it happen. As we all know, New Years Resolutions do not last. Stick with your gym or exercise regime or look at ways to increase your movement. Your body will thank you later.

  1. Get away

Destress and get away for a while. All the craziness of Christmas can get it us. This might be that mother-in-law you only see once a year, the Christmas recitals the kids are involved with or the Christmas work wrap up. Take some time to get away from all the hustle and bustle. Whether it’s a trip down south or even just staying at lodge 30 minutes away, to getting to the beach. Find some time for you to reflect on the amazing achievements you have accomplished this year.

  1. Reward yourself with experiences

You did amazing this year! So you should celebrate – this doesn’t mean finishing a casket of wine. It means sharing your wins and celebrations with the ones you love in a positive environment. Whether that’s giving toys, gadgets, or even passes to workshops and activities – it’s a great way to celebrate your wins! Our personal favourite is RedBalloon and finding fantastic experiences there.

  1. Get adjusted

Why did you start Chiropractic care? Was it to be rid of your pain or to get a better outlook in your health? Just because it’s the silly season doesn’t mean your health goes on holiday. Especially in an increase stress environment, where there may be an increase in sitting, poor foods, inactivity – this may lead to an increase in pain and poor posture during December.
